Resistance to Earth of Multiple Horizontal Anodes
This calculation is used to calculate rectifier and ground bed sizing to protect large underground piping systems such as pump/compressor stations and large transmission piping systems.
These systems are not practical for 1 amp or less with low driving voltages. In addition, impressed current systems require an AC power source to operate a rectifier to convert AC to DC power.
Where:
R – Ground bed resistance(Ohms)
L – Anode length
ρ – Actual soil resitivity(ohm cm)
N – Number of anodes
S – Anode depth (2 x Length)
d – Diameter in feet
ln – Natural logarithm function
Note: For a more accurate assessment on different anode configurations and spacing, NACE horizontal design charts are recommended.
