This article covers the nine commands used to remove model features — customers, nodes, pipes, valve nodes, and vertices — from a GASWorkS model, either one at a time or in bulk. Several of these commands ripple beyond the feature you click: deleting a node or valve node joins its connected pipes into one, deleting a pipe can also delete customers attached to it (or the nodes it leaves disconnected), and deleting a customer updates the External Load of the node it was assigned to. Review each command’s prompts before confirming.
GDI Commands
Delete A Customer
Deletes a single customer feature.
- With a model open, the GDI Window displayed, and at least one customer in the model, select the Delete Customer item from the Customer branch of the GDI Command Tree.
- At the Select Customer prompt, left-click the customer to remove.
- The selected customer is deleted.

This command can be executed by selecting the Delete Customer item from the GDI Command List or by typing DELETECUSTOMER or DELC on the GDI Command Line and pressing Enter.
Notes
- Deleting a customer removes its load from the model. The External Load of any affected node will be automatically updated.
- To remove all customer features from the model, use the Delete All Customers command.
Delete All Customers
Deletes every customer feature in the current model.
- Select the Delete All Customers item from the GDI Command List.
- Respond Yes to the confirmation message to proceed, or No to end the command.
- A message may report when the process is complete. Click OK to clear it.

This command can be executed by selecting the Delete All Customers item from the GDI Command List or by typing DELETEALLCUST on the GDI Command Line and pressing Enter.
Notes
- Deleting a customer removes its load from the model. The nodes to which the load was assigned are automatically updated.
- To remove a single customer feature from the model, use the Delete Customer command.
Delete A Node
Removes a node by replacing it with a vertex and joining its connected pipes into a single polyline pipe.
- Select the Delete Node item from the GDI Command List.
- At the Select A Node prompt, left-click the node to remove.
- If the node connects only two pipes, it’s replaced with a vertex and the two pipes are joined into one polyline pipe.
- If the node connects more than two pipes, a message states it can’t be deleted; if confirmed, only the two pipes with the lowest Record Numbers are joined at that location, and the node itself is not deleted.

This command can be executed by selecting the Delete Node item from the GDI Command List or by typing DELETENODE or DELN on the GDI Command Line and pressing Enter.
Notes
- This command joins two pipe features that intersect at the node. The pipe with the lower Record Number is preserved, and its data is used for the new pipe. The Hydraulic Length of the new pipe is automatically updated by summing the values of the combined pipes.
Delete A Pipe
Deletes a pipe feature, along with any nodes left disconnected as a result.
- Select the Delete Pipe item from the Construction branch of the GDI Command Tree.
- At the Select A Pipe prompt, left-click the pipe to remove.
- If the pipe has attached customers, respond to the message: Yes deletes the pipe and its customers, No deletes only the pipe, and Cancel ends the command and preserves the model.
- If No is clicked, a message reminds you to reassign the now-disconnected customers. Click OK to continue.

This command can be executed by selecting the Delete Pipe item from the GDI Command List or by typing DELETEPIPE or DELP on the GDI Command Line and pressing Enter.
Notes
- Any nodes that will no longer be connected to a pipe due to this process will also be deleted.
Delete A Polyline Pipe Vertex
Deletes a single vertex from a polyline pipe, combining and redrawing the adjacent segments.
- Select the Delete Pipe Vertex item from the Edit Graphics branch of the GDI Command Tree.
- At the Select Pipe To Delete Vertex From prompt, left-click a polyline pipe. It is highlighted.
- At the Select A Vertex prompt, left-click the vertex to remove. The adjacent segments are combined and redrawn between the remaining vertices.
- If Automatically Update Pipe Length is off, respond to the message asking whether to update the Hydraulic Length to match the new graphic length, or keep the prior value.

This command can be executed by selecting the Delete Polyline Pipe Vertex item from the GDI Command List or by typing DELETEPOLYVERTEX or DELPVTX on the GDI Command Line and pressing Enter.
Notes
- To display vertices in the GDI Window, select the Display Vertex Symbols graphics option. To access the option, select the Options & Settings item from the Utilities menu, then select the Graphics data tab.
- Grips displayed at vertices when a polyline pipe is highlighted are not displayed with this command.
- Removing a vertex from a polyline pipe that only has one vertex will change the Pipe Line Type of the segment to a 2-point pipe.
Delete A Service Line Vertex
Deletes a single vertex from a polyline-style service line, combining and redrawing the adjacent segments.
- Select the Delete Service Line Vertex item from the Customer branch of the GDI Command Tree.
- At the Select Customer To Delete Service Line Vertex From prompt, left-click a polyline-style customer service line. It is highlighted.
- At the Select A Vertex prompt, left-click the vertex to remove. The adjacent segments are combined and redrawn between the remaining vertices.

This command can be executed by selecting the Delete Service Line Vertex item from the GDI Command List or by typing DELETESERVICEVERTEX or DELSVTX on the GDI Command Line and pressing Enter.
Notes

Delete A Valve Node
Removes a single valve node by replacing it with a vertex and joining its connected pipes.
- Select the Delete Valve Node item from the GDI Command List.
- At the Select A Valve Node prompt, left-click the valve node to remove.
- If it connects only two pipes, it’s replaced with a vertex and the pipes are combined into one polyline pipe.
- If it connects more than two pipes, a message states it can’t be removed and asks whether to reset the node’s Hydraulic Type to a connection node instead; respond Yes to convert it or No to leave the node as-is.

This command can be executed by selecting the Delete Valve Node item from the GDI Command List or by typing DELETEVALVENODE or DELVN on the GDI Command Line and pressing Enter.
Notes
- To remove all valve nodes from the model, use the Delete All Valve Nodes command.
Delete All Valve Nodes
Removes every valve node in the current model: two-pipe valve nodes are deleted and their pipes joined, while valve nodes connecting three or more pipes are converted into connection nodes.
- Select the Delete All Valve Nodes item from the GDI Command List.
- Respond Yes to the confirmation message to proceed, or No to end the command.
- Valve nodes at the intersection of exactly two pipes are deleted, with the pipes joined into one polyline pipe with a vertex at that location; all other valve nodes are converted to connection nodes.
- A message may report when the process is complete. Click OK to clear it.

This command can be executed by selecting the Delete All Valve Nodes item from the GDI Command List or by typing DELETEALLVALVENODES or DELVNODES on the GDI Command Line and pressing Enter.
Notes
- To remove a single valve node from the model, use the Delete Valve Node command.
Delete Zero Length Pipes
Deletes every pipe feature in the model with a zero (0) Length value.
- Select the Delete Zero Length Pipes item from the GDI Command List.
- Respond Yes to the confirmation message to proceed, or No to end the command.
- A message may report the number of pipes deleted. Click OK to clear it.

This command can be executed by selecting the Delete Zero Length Pipes item from the GDI Command List or by typing DELETEZEROPIPES on the GDI Command Line and pressing Enter.
Notes
- A zero-length pipe can be created during the Import routine if its ends fall within the specified Fuzzy Tolerance value — GASWorkS “snaps” the node ends together. It is not possible to select a zero-length pipe graphically.
- Another option for deleting zero-length pipes is to create a selection set in the Pipe Data Report and manually delete the pipes from within the report. To access the report, select the Pipe Data item from the Report menu.
Notes & Considerations
- Deleting a node or valve node connected to exactly two pipes replaces it with a vertex and joins those pipes into one polyline pipe; a node or valve node connected to three or more pipes generally can’t be deleted this way, though a valve node in that situation can be converted to a connection node instead.
- If the Allow Undo Of Data/Graphic Changes environment option is selected, click the Undo icon to restore the last data or graphic change. To access the option, select the Options & Settings item from the Utilities menu, then select the Environment data tab.

What is the difference between a marked view and a saved view?A marked view is indicated by a cross-hatched area in the GDI Display, while a saved view is a stored set of display limits you can return to. They are deleted with different commands — Delete Marked View / Delete All Marked Views for marked views, and Delete Saved View for saved views. Deleting a saved view does not change the current view in the GDI Window.

Does Delete All User Graphics remove my User Text too?No. Delete All User Graphics removes User Images, Lines, and Symbols only. User Text features are deleted separately with Delete User Text (single) or Delete All User Text (all).

There are two Color Legend Text items on screen — which one gets deleted?If a second Color Legend Text is displayed, the first Color Legend Text is the one deleted. Re-execute the command to delete the second one.

Can I undo a deletion?Yes, if the Allow Undo Of Data/Graphic Changes environment option is selected — click the Undo icon to restore the last data or graphic change. The option is on the Environment data tab of the Options & Settings screen in the Utilities menu.
