Flagging Customers, Nodes & Pipes

These commands place flags on customers, nodes, and pipes so you can track or review them — either one feature at a time by clicking it, across a group matching a query, or automatically for a specific condition (invalid or redundant Link ID Numbers, supply nodes, unassigned customers). Flags persist until you clear them or re-run a Flag command for the same feature type, and unlike find flags, more than one item flag of the same type can be displayed at once.

GDI Commands

Flag A Customer

Finds and flags one or more customer features that you select directly.

  1. Select the Flag Customer item from the GDI Command List.
  2. At the Select Customer To Flag prompt, left-click a customer. An item flag is placed at that customer.
  3. The prompt remains active — repeat to flag more customers, then right-click to finish.

Can also be run by typing FLAGCUST or FLAGC on the GDI Command Line.

Flag Customers By Item Value

Finds and flags every customer feature matching a query you define.

  1. Select the Flag Customers By Item Value item from the GDI Command List. The Query Specifications screen is displayed.
  2. Select a data item from the Where list, an operator from the Is list, and a value from the To list (or type one into the To field).
  3. Click Perform Query. A message may report the number of matches found — click OK to clear it and return to the screen.
  4. Repeat to run additional queries, then click Close to return to the GDI Display. Item flags are placed at every feature matching the criteria from the queries performed.

Can also be run by typing FLAGCUSTOMERITEM or FLAGCUSTITEM on the GDI Command Line.

Notes

  • On the Query Specifications screen, Save Current Specification saves the query for reuse later; saved queries appear in the Saved Specifications list. To remove one, click Delete Displayed Specification.

Finds and flags customer features that have an invalid Link ID Number.

  1. Select the Flag Customers – Invalid Link ID Numbers item from the GDI Command List.
  2. A message may report the number of customers with invalid Link ID Numbers found. Click OK to clear it.
  3. Error flags are placed at the affected customers, and the Customer Link ID Number Report is displayed listing them. Review the report, then click Close to return to the GDI Display.

Can also be run by typing FLAGBADCID on the GDI Command Line.

Finds and flags customer features that share a Link ID Number with another customer.

  1. Select the Flag Customers – Redundant Link ID Numbers item from the GDI Command List.
  2. A message may report the number of customers with redundant Link ID Numbers found. Click OK to clear it.
  3. Error flags are placed at the affected customers, and the Customer Redundant Link ID Number Report is displayed listing them. Review the report, then click Close to return to the GDI Display.

Can also be run by typing FLAG2XCID on the GDI Command Line.

Flag A Node

Finds and flags one or more nodes that you select directly.

  1. Select the Flag Node item from the GDI Command List.
  2. At the Select Node To Flag prompt, left-click a node. An item flag is placed at that node.
  3. The prompt remains active — repeat to flag more nodes, then right-click to finish.

Can also be run by typing FLAGNODE or FLAGN on the GDI Command Line.

Flag Nodes By Item Value

Finds and flags every node matching a query you define.

  1. Select the Flag Nodes By Item Value item from the GDI Command List. The Query Specifications screen is displayed.
  2. Select a data item from the Where list, an operator from the Is list, and a value from the To list (or type one into the To field).
  3. Click Perform Query. A message may report the number of matches found — click OK to clear it and return to the screen.
  4. Repeat to run additional queries, then click Close to return to the GDI Display. Item flags are placed at every feature matching the criteria from the queries performed.

Flag A Pipe

Finds and flags one or more pipe features that you select directly.

  1. Select the Flag Pipe item from the GDI Command List.
  2. At the Select Pipe To Flag prompt, left-click a pipe. An item flag is placed at that pipe.
  3. The prompt remains active — repeat to flag more pipes, then right-click to finish.

Can also be run by typing FLAGPIPE or FLAGP on the GDI Command Line.

Flag Pipes By Item Value

Finds and flags every pipe feature matching a query you define.

  1. Select the Flag Pipes By Item Value item from the GDI Command List. The Query Specifications screen is displayed.
  2. Select a data item from the Where list, an operator from the Is list, and a value from the To list (or type one into the To field).
  3. Click Perform Query. A message may report the number of matches found — click OK to clear it and return to the screen.
  4. Repeat to run additional queries, then click Close to return to the GDI Display. Item flags are placed at every feature matching the criteria from the queries performed.

Can also be run by typing FLAGPIPEITEM or FLAGPITEM on the GDI Command Line.

Notes

  • On the Query Specifications screen, Save Current Specification saves the query for reuse later; saved queries appear in the Saved Specifications list. To remove one, click Delete Displayed Specification.
  • Selecting Pipe Diameter from the Where list lets you type any value into the To field; selecting Pipe Size/Type Code instead gives a list of the codes in the Pipe Property Table; Pipe Size/Type Code (Unlisted) lets you enter a code not found in that table.

Flag The Supply Node

Finds and flags every node with a positive load value in the model.

  1. Select the Flag Supply Nodes item from the GDI Command List. There are no further prompts.
  2. All supply nodes in the model are flagged.

Can also be run by typing FLAGSUPPLY on the GDI Command Line.

Notes

  • A supply node is any node with a Total Load value greater than zero — these represent the points where gas flows into the system being modeled.

Flag Unassigned Customers

Finds and flags customer features that are not assigned to a supply main.

  1. Select the Flag Customers – Unassigned item from the GDI Command List.
  2. A message reports the number of customers with bad pipe assignments found. Click OK to clear it.
  3. All unassigned customer locations are flagged.

Can also be run by typing FLAGUNASSIGNED or FLAGUNCUST on the GDI Command Line.

Notes

  • An unassigned customer has a customer location but no tap location or service line. It carries a Supply Main Number of “0” in the Customer Data and is not included in the solution.

Notes & Considerations

  • For a flag to display, the corresponding Display Symbols option must be turned on — Display Customer Symbols, Display Node Symbols, or Display Pipe Symbols, depending on the feature type.
  • Flags remain displayed until cleared with one of the Clear Flag commands, or until another Flag command is run for the same feature type. Unlike find flags, multiple features of the same type can be flagged at once.
  • To clear flags once you’re done reviewing them, use the appropriate Clear Flag command — see Clearing Customer & Node Flags for customers and nodes, or Clearing Pipe, DXF & System Flags for pipes, error flags, and supply flags.

FAQ

  • Do I need exact text for searching?

    The Find DXF Text and Find User Text routines are not case-sensitive, but the search string must match the entire text value — to find “Main St” you must search “Main St”. To match partial text, type the term LIKE before the search value. Only the first feature matching the criteria is flagged.

  • Can the view automatically jump to a found feature?
    Yes. If the Automatically Zoom On Find graphics option is selected, the GDI Window view is centered on the flagged feature. The option is on the Graphics data tab of the Options & Settings screen in the Utilities menu.
  • What does Go To An XY Coordinate Location do to my view?
    It positions the upper-left corner of the model image at the coordinate you specify — useful for jumping to a known location. Use the Zoom Previous command to return to the last view.
