Introduction
The four categories below cover the full lifecycle of a model. GDI Commands is where the day-to-day work happens — the Graphic Data Interface commands for drawing, editing, analyzing, and navigating a model. Import & Export moves data between GASWorkS and other applications. Tutorials and Examples walk through complete, worked scenarios end to end. GeoMapping puts the model in real-world geographic context. If you’re not sure where a task lives, start with GDI Commands — it holds the large majority of the day-to-day commands.
New to GASWorkS? Start with Installing & Getting Started with GASWorkS 11 — it covers installation, licensing, and the first steps of opening and moving around a model before you dive into the command reference below.
Module/Application
GDI Commands
- Use Case: The Graphic Data Interface commands you use to build, modify, analyze, and navigate a model — everything you do directly on the model canvas.
- Covers: Six command groups — Creating & Adding Features, Editing & Modifying Features, Deleting Features, Finding & Flagging Features, Display, View & Navigation, and Analysis & Model Utilities.
- Note: The largest category — 33 articles across six subcategories. Start here for the core modeling workflow.
Import & Export
- Use Case: Move data between GASWorkS and other applications — build or update a model from an external file, or send model data out to GIS, CAD, spreadsheets, and reporting tools.
- Covers: Importing CSV, DXF & KML files; importing & merging shapefiles; exporting model data (CSV, DBF & XLS); and exporting to DXF, KML & shapefiles.
- Note: Every routine uses one of two mechanisms — Import (creates a new model) or Merge (combines external data into an open model).
Tutorials and Examples
- Use Case: Follow complete, worked scenarios — from first install through a full build-and-solve walkthrough and topic-specific GDI example bundles.
- Covers: Installing & Getting Started, the Demonstration (a full worked model), and six GDI worked-example bundles.
- Note: The place to start if you’re new to GASWorkS or want to see a complete workflow end to end.
GeoMapping
- Use Case: Attach and build a model on top of geographic map backgrounds, giving the network real-world location context.
- Covers: Attaching & Building with Map Backgrounds.
- Note: Pairs naturally with the Import & Export category when your source data is geographic.
