Introduction
Finding & Flagging Features covers locating something specific in a GASWorkS model and marking it for attention — two closely related jobs that become essential once a model grows beyond the size you can just scroll around and eyeball. Finding is about search: locating one customer, node, pipe, location, or piece of text by a known value. Flagging is about tracking: marking one or many features so you can review, revisit, or work through them systematically, whether you select them yourself or GASWorkS identifies them automatically against a condition.
The five articles below split along two lines. Finding Customers, Nodes & Pipes and Finding Locations, Text & Crossings cover search — by a specific data value, an ID number, a coordinate, or a crossing point. Flagging Customers, Nodes & Pipes covers marking features, either by hand or by query, plus a handful of automatic error-condition flags (invalid or redundant Link IDs, unassigned customers, supply nodes). Clearing Customer & Node Flags and Clearing Pipe, DXF & System Flags round the subcategory out — every flag a Find or Flag command sets eventually needs to be cleared, and these two articles cover that half of the workflow.
None of these commands change a model’s underlying data — they help you locate and keep track of the features you want to work with next, usually in Editing & Modifying Features or Deleting Features.
Module/Application
- Finding Customers, Nodes & Pipes
- Use Case: Locate a single customer, node, or pipe by a search value, or directly by its Internal ID Number, Link ID Number, or Record Number.

- Differentiator: Covers search types that fall outside the standard customer/node/pipe lookups in Finding Customers, Nodes & Pipes — coordinates, text content, and crossings.

- Covers: Flag A Customer, Flag Customers By Item Value, Flag Customers With Invalid Link ID Numbers, Flag Customers With Redundant Link ID Numbers, Flag A Node, Flag Nodes By Item Value, Flag A Pipe, Flag Pipes By Item Value, Flag The Supply Node, Flag Unassigned Customers.
- Differentiator: Unlike Find commands, multiple flags of the same type can be displayed at once — built for tracking a group of features, not just locating one.

FAQ
-
Do I need exact text for searching?
The Find DXF Text and Find User Text routines are not case-sensitive, but the search string must match the entire text value — to find “Main St” you must search “Main St”. To match partial text, type the term LIKE before the search value. Only the first feature matching the criteria is flagged.
-
Can the view automatically jump to a found feature?Yes. If the Automatically Zoom On Find graphics option is selected, the GDI Window view is centered on the flagged feature. The option is on the Graphics data tab of the Options & Settings screen in the Utilities menu.
-
What does Go To An XY Coordinate Location do to my view?It positions the upper-left corner of the model image at the coordinate you specify — useful for jumping to a known location. Use the Zoom Previous command to return to the last view.
